Courtney Jones is a third-generation Oakland native, entrepreneur, community advocate, and founder of Tha Town Plantz, an Oakland-based plant lifestyle company dedicated to connecting people, plants, and community. Through plant styling, education, urban gardening, wellness experiences, and community partnerships, Tha Town Plantz is reimagining how plants can transform homes, neighborhoods, and lives.
With a lifelong passion for gardening and environmental stewardship, Courtney has cultivated an extensive collection of more than 200 houseplants, rare tropical species, edible gardens, and greenhouse spaces. Her work is rooted in the belief that plants are more than décor — they are tools for healing, food sovereignty, environmental justice, and community connection.
Guided by the belief that "helping one person in need may mean the world to them," Courtney has dedicated her career to advancing equity, creating opportunities, and strengthening underserved communities throughout Alameda County. Her professional experience spans executive leadership in healthcare, nonprofit administration, organizational operations, compliance, and community engagement — giving her a unique perspective on building organizations that create both social and economic impact.
A lifelong advocate for racial equity and inclusion, Courtney served as the founding co-chair of the Chabot Elementary PTA Equity and Inclusion Committee and became the school's first Black PTA President in more than 30 years. She has served on the boards of Resources for Community Development and the Oral Lee Brown Foundation, co-founded Girl Scout Troop 32009, and has volunteered with organizations addressing food insecurity, environmental education, and services for Oakland's unhoused residents.
Courtney is a published author, a Girls Inc. of Alameda County 2019 Strong, Smart, and Bold Honoree, an Emerge California alumna who served as Northern California Vice Representative for the Class of 2021, and a former Commissioner for the City of Oakland's Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Community Advisory Board. In 2024, she launched a campaign for the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, continuing her commitment to public service and community leadership.
As Founder and CEO of Tha Town Plantz, Courtney is building more than a plant business — she is cultivating a movement rooted in Oakland that celebrates sustainability, culture, wellness, and economic opportunity. Her vision is to demonstrate that entrepreneurship can generate meaningful profit while creating lasting community impact through education, environmental stewardship, and access to green spaces.
Whether designing interiors with living plants, teaching urban gardening, supporting local events with plant installations, or empowering families to grow their own food, Courtney's mission remains the same: to leave Oakland greener, healthier, and more connected than she found it.

After years of cultivating hundreds of houseplants, edible gardens, and greenhouse spaces, founder Courtney Jones recognized that plants have the power to transform more than homes — they can improve wellness, strengthen neighborhoods, and reconnect people with nature.
